Mission Statement

Young people are expected to leave care at a much younger age than that of the general population. In addition to this, many Care Leavers tend to have received inconsistent preparation for adulthood and find themselves struggling to budget, gain employment, education or training and generally manage a home. While some young people have positive experiences, others experience considerable difficulty.

Progress Northwest aims to:

Support young people to live independently.

·        Support young people in building and maintaining relationships with others.

·        Support young people in developing their self-esteem (including knowledge of their own personal histories and that of their families, cultures and communities).

·        Support young people to acquire practical and financial skills and knowledge.

Progress Northwest intends to achieve and maintain these stated aims by:

·        Having a high regard and respect for each young person, staff member, professional and visitor, who comes into contact with the service.

·        Ensuring that the planning of transitions takes place early, well before a proposed move.

·        Involving all those with an interest in the support of a young person (including, where appropriate, social workers, past carers, family members and staff from other agencies, such as YOT).

·        Involving outside agencies at an early stage, such as addaction and encouraging young people to source community based support.

·        Proceeding at a young person's pace, we will not move Young People on if they are not meeting their targets.

·        Taking a holistic approach and exploring all dimensions of young people's lives.

·        Ensuring young people are aware of future sources of support and how to access them.
